Sharp and Durable Blades
We have carefully selected blade materials that are well known to be the sharpest, most durable and most beautiful.
Damascus Steel Kitchen Knife
Damascus steel was a type of steel used for manufacturing sword blades in the Near East made with wootz steel. These swords are characterized by distinctive patterns of banding and mottling reminiscent of flowing water. Such blades were reputed to be tough, resistant to shattering, and capable of being honed to a sharp, resilient edge. This ancient technique was lost around 1700 AD but in 1973 craftsmen begun recapturing this beautiful metalwork and today we can offer these magnificent knives.
Damascus steel is made simply by folding steel like a sandwich within other metal types. The resulting product can comprise anywhere up to hundreds of layers and has a solid density and varied design.
Damascus knives boast stylish patterns that metal workers engrave into the blade during the forging process. No two Damascus knives are alike. In fact, each knife is one of a kind and valuable as an expressive work of art.
440C Stainless Steel Custom Knives
440C is the custom knife makers metal of choice! It is extremely hard-wearing and keeps a good edge, it is one of the most corrosion resistant metals on earth and takes a mirror polish.
Mirror polishing is not just for looks. It will reduce cutting resistance and it is more sanitary and better for your blade as a good mirror polish actually repels dirt and moisture.
The Machinery's Handbook states this about 440C stainless steel: "This steel has the greatest quenched hardness and wears resistance upon heat treatment of any corrosion-resistant or heat-resistant steel." It is rated at 58-65 on the Rockwell Hardness scale, this scale also says this about 440C, "high chromium stainless steel which exhibits an excellent balance of hardness and corrosion resistance. This steel takes a nice edge, and is fairly easy to sharpen even for a novice."
Beautiful and Strong Handles
Buffalo Horn Knife Handle
Water buffalo is a beautiful natural black color, with the occasional white streaks.
The texture of Buffalo Horn helps improve grip strength. Horn becomes sticky when wet, thus improving grip security when working. The texture adds visual interest and contrast to a smooth and polished blade. The texture of a fine organic material makes a transition between the cold, inorganic steel blade to the living, warm, moving hand. The polished texture of Buffalo Horn has a smooth comfortable feel and is attractive and secure in the hand.
Rosewood has long been considered the ideal material for knife handles. It is a strong and heavy timber which takes an excellent polish. We love the carefully hand-polished Rosewood handles for their comfortable feel and elegant look.
